Hey gang!
February’s program is going to be great. Don’t miss it!
We are welcoming ASHRAE Fellow, Blake Ellis, to speak about
ASHRAE’S NEW GLOBAL HEADQUARTERS!
The story of a hospital, a building past its prime and showing the world “What’s Possible”
As a member of ASHRAE's Headquarters’ Ad Hoc Committee, Blake will discuss why ASHRAE moved its headquarters and purchase a 66,700 sqft office building constructed in the 1970's. Blake will then walk us through the process of designing and renovating this 1970's building into a state of the art Net Zero Energy building. The building showcases several design concepts, and the industry will learn from its operations and experience.
Bio:
Blake is a Principal and the OnSite Energy & Power Group Manager for Burns & McDonnell in Kansas City. He spends his time working on projects related to energy on campuses. Many times, these are colleges and universities, but a campus also pertains to large medical centers, airports and downtown areas that have a concentration of buildings. Projects include new and renovations to central utility plants adding chillers, boilers or cogeneration (CHP). His group also works on distribution systems from the plant as well the energy used in the buildings themselves. All three components are part of an integrated energy system and his group helps clients minimize the cost (energy, operations and maintenance) of these systems.
In addition to numerous chapter positions and Past Chapter President, Blake has served as Region IX DRC, as Nominating Committee Member, and is currently Chair of TC 1.10 CHP Systems, the Standards Subcommittee Chair for TC 6.9 Thermal Storage, and the Vice Chair of SPC-150, a Method of Test for Thermal Storage Systems.
Education:
University of Minnesota, Institute of Technology, Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering, 1992
University of Minnesota, Carlson School of Management, Masters of Business Administration, 1998
(Not being from Kansas, we’ll grant him these deficiencies. 😊 )
